Climb the Island - Summit Record
Vancouver Island Section Alpine Club of Canada Centenary Celebration
The idea of this project is simply to set the members of our section the collaborative challenge of seeing how many different island peaks we can climb during the calendar year 2012. Can we reach 100 different summits? Can we chalk up 2012 summiteers? What other accumulated heights can we achieve on our own island mountains?
From January 2012 members have the opportunity to post their contributions to this challenge directly on our website. The table below, and an interactive map (accvi.ca/vi100map/ ) show the status of the challenge peaks. Green icons, on the map, indicate peaks that are available for the challenge, red are those that have been summitted.
When you register a successful ascent in the summit log below the icon on the map will change from green to red to show that it has been climbed.
The list of peaks includes a wide range of mountains from obvious to obscure, from accessible to awkward, from devilishly difficult to extra easy, …….. You get the idea, there’s something for everyone – so get out there and join the fun of this year-long party.
Also please take a summit photo, ideally of all members of the party, as we will also be developing a blog and photo collection (see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/74143207@N02/ ) to chart progress, and possibly making a special centennial publication. These can be mailed to summits@accvi.ca
Please note: Only current club members who have registered are able to alter the interactive summit log below (please login to make changes).
