Proposed Expedition to Nepal Himalaya in 2014
Dear Island Mountaineer:
I am Tak Ogasawara, member of the Canadian Alpine Club and the Japanese Alpine Club. I am trying to organize a climbing expedition to Nepal in spring or fall of 2014. This is not a guided expedition, we will do everything ourselves.
Island Mountaineer Himlung Himal Expedition 2014
Objective: Climbing Himlung Himal as well as gaining
high attitude mountaineering experience.
Mountain: Himlung Himal (7126m)
Area: Manang District of Annapurna Region in Nepal
Date: Spring or fall of 2014
Duration of expedition:
Total days 40 days
Katmandu 6 days
Trekking in and out 14 days
Climbing 20 days
Climbing history of Himlung Himal
The Himlung Himal was open for climbing in 1992 and the same year a Japanese party (Academic Alpine Club of Hokkaido University) made the first ascent. The second accent was made by a French party in 2002.
After the second ascent, numerous expeditions have gone in and succeeded in climbing this mountain. There have been a number of commercial guiding expeditions operating on this mountain in recent years.
Interest facts about Himlung and Nemjung
The location of Himlung is a bit confusing due to earlier reports because in the late 1980s the Nepal Government renamed Himlung Himal to Nemjung and an unnamed peak farther to the north to Himlung Himal. Therefore all information referring to Himlung Himal in the 1960s to late 1980s were in fact referring to Nemjung.
In 1963 a Japanese party tried to climb Himlung (now Nemjung) but did not succeed then in 1983 another Japanese party went in and made the first ascent of Himlung (Nemjung).
Another Japanese party made a second ascent via the west face of Nemjung in 2009.
So far only two parties have made it to the top.
If enough people show interest, I am planning an initial information/organization meeting in November 2012.
Please e-mail or call me if you are interested in this proposal.
