ACCVI offers a wide variety of courses aimed at giving our members the technical and safety skills to get out there in the mountains. Course topics range from introductory ice axe-,crevasse rescue workshops to Wilderness First Aid courses and advanced levels of avalanche safety training. These courses are subsidized by the club and involve either ACC volunteer leaders or professional instructors.

Please note that our courses are open to ACC members in good standing only. You are welcome to join the section if you would like to enrol in one or more of these courses.

LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP Tongue out

 

COURSE: Leadership workshop, Registration required 

DATE: Sat, 11-May-2013

LOCATION: Swan Lake Nature House,Victoria , BC

TIME: 9:00am to 4:00pm

PRICE: No fees

Workshop lead by ACMG guide Brad Harrisson. If you are currently a leader or thinking

about leading a trip then use this chance to get an all-day free leadership course with

one of ACC's most experienced guides.

WILDERNESS FIRST AID

COURSE: 24h customized Wilderness First Aid course over 2.5 days, CPR Level A certification included

DATE: Spring Session CANCELLED ! Next course will be in Fall 2013

LOCATION: Victoria , BC

PRICE: 280$ + tax (including first aid Kit), Based on 11-13 participants/course , price might vary depending

on number of participants. 24h weekend course (friday night  til Sunday), loaded with theory and lot's and lot's of practising !

Course is professionally taught by Slipstream Wilderness First Aid

Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST 1)

Several dates possible, need 6...8 participants per course.

Mount Washington. Price 220$ per person.

Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 (AST 2) 

Several dates possible,  6 participants per course.

Mt Cain. Price 450$/person. This course requires more planning fromACC/IAG’s side .

Introduction to back country skiing Cool
During Annual General ACC meeting(AGM) , Vancouver Island Mountain Center, Mt Washington.

Date: 12-13 Jan 2013. No fees. COURSE WAS FULL AND FUN.

 

This trip is for beginners who are new to ski touring, back country skiing and basic aspects

of ski mountaineering. The objective of the 2 days course is to give us skills which will allow

to  safely plan- and tour in the backcountry.Ski trip to Mt Elma included.

Introduction to General Mountaineering- DATE: 5-8 July 2013 - Big interior Mountain, Nine Peaks Cool

-     Course is full, waiting list being taken - Pre-trip meeting 13 June @ Swan Lake Nature house,  6:00pm - 10:00pm

  • mountaineering practice with an emphasis on hands-on learning
  • ice axe techniques, crevasse rescue, rope systems, anchors, route-finding
  • Pre-requisites: ice axe arrest and crevasse rescue basics (Snow school or equivelant); Good physical condition. People considering the Intro to Mountaineering Course should also take part in the Snow School-Crevasse Rescue Workshop as preparation if they do not already have this experience
  • Preference will be given to ACC members and Student Affiliate members. Others will be accommodated on a 'stand-by' basis.

Please call or email the course contact person as soon as possible after the course is announced if you would like to register for it.  A certain minimum number of participants will generally be required for the course to proceed.

While most ACC VI courses are free of charge, course subsidies of 75% for instruction are available to ACC Vancouver Island members for those courses that have an associated cost.

More mountain courses are available through Island Alpine Guides, who offer a 10% discount for ACCVI members. A 75% rebate from the Club is also available for instruction on approved IAG courses.
