Drive to the end of the Oyster River Logging Roads and park beside a small pond as the road climbs west to Pearl Lake (800m). To the south is the north face of Mitchell. A cliff band at 1400m gards the upper portion of the mountain. The only break in this cliff is a steep scree slope at the eastern end of the face, and is visible from the cars.
Thrash south across the logging slash towards the eastern end of the north face of Mitchell. When further progress throught the forest is halted by cliffs work left/east to the scree slope. It is necessary to ascend 30m in the scree before moving right/west back into the trees. Scrambling south, up steep small gullies in the forest, to reach the open summit plateau. Hike south to the summit.
