Vancouver Island Alpine Guide Alexandra Peak - 1983m

South East Ridge

Drive to the end of the Oyster River Logging Roads and park beside a small pond as the road climbs west to Pearl Lake (800m). From the car hike 50m up the road then head north to cross the Oyster River on trees fallen across the river at the edge of the logging slash. A flagged route head north up the ridge at the SE corner of Alexandra Peak.

At 1400m the traverses left/west to avoid a gendarme. With enough snow to cover the bush it is possible to head west across a basin and head directly for the ridge to the south of Alexandra. Otherwise regain the ridge after the gendarme and follow it west to south of Alexandra.

Hike north to the summit block of Alexandra. Bypass a large gendarme on the right/east then scramble to the summit.

The gendarme can be climbed from the notch between it and Alexandra. The route however is quite loose.
