This route is best done as a west to east traverse of the mountain. Rescent washouts have made this a much longer outing, with a 1.5 hour logging road hike to reach the El Cap-Whymper Col and a similar slog on the way home.
From the El Cap-Whymper Col hike up through logging slash and enter the forest to the left of a set of bluffs. Ascend the ridge eastward to reach the first summit (1360m).
Head NE into a col loosing 80m of elevation. Climb pine covered ledges and gullies to reach a 1440m summit. Continue NE into another Col before SE towards the main summit, 2km away. Head SE over a series of minor summits to reach a deep notch. A narrow exposed ledge, 20m down the west/right side of ridge leads into the notch. Continue SE to reach the summit.
Descend the SE Ridge.
