Follow the trail
Lomas Lake Trail
to the east end of the lake.
Climb up through the forest and meadows heading east, to the base of the small blocky 1420m summit,
at midpoint of the ridge joining El Capitan and Landale.
Traverse north and pick up a faint steep trail/shute that leads up the ridge just to the NW of the blocky summit.
Follow the ridge NW to reach the summit.
When descending El Capitan stay on top of the ridge, crossing over the top of the first gentle 1420m summit on the ridge. The trail/shute is poorly marked and starts 20m before the cliffs of second blocky 1420m summit on the ridge. The trail drops down the SW/Right and onto the meadows that lead to Lomas Lake.
The start of the West Ridge route is at the Service / El Capitan Col. This is reached by leaving the Lomas Lake Tail as it begins traversing east to Lomas Lake across the south slope of El Capitan, about 50m before it crosses the stream coming down from the Service / El Capitan Col (elavation 1000m). Head North traversing into the Col, gaining about 80m of elevation.
From the Col head east up the West Ridge. Various rock steps can be easily scrambled with plenty of vegitation for aid.
Descent the SE ridge. This joins up with the Summer Route on Mount Landale at the mine site, about half way up from Lomas Lake.
