Victoria Peak stands high above its neighbours; making it easy to spot. Traditionally Victoria Peak has been asscended from the White River Valley as a 3 day trip. Recent logging to the south has made it possible as a day trip.
Follow logging roads to the south ridge of Victoria Peak??? Hike up through forest onto the ridge crest and follow this north towards the summit block??? As the ridge joins the summit block a gully comes up from the snow/scree slopes on Victoria's south face. Follow this down and cross the slope, decending to reach a vegitated ledge/ramp. This leads to the SE ridge. Climb over a class 4 step to reach easier scrambling. Ascend towards the summit ridge and traverse bellow the crest of the ridge to bellow the summit. Lastly scramble to the summit.
A bronze plack with the the inscription, "They Hold the Hieghts, They Won", is chained to the summit cairn. Does any body know who lugged this thing up there?
Follow the Whiter River Main to just north of Victoria Peak, take a side branch across the river and back towards the massif??? Thrash across logging slash to reach the forest to the left of a creek draining the NW side of the Victoria - Warden massif. Continue first through open forest then thicker undergrowth to reach an alder thicket at the bottom of the gully between Victoria and Warden Peaks. Head NW through the forest to gain the top of cliffs above the alder thicket. A small tairn here makes a good camp site. From the tairn head south under the summit block and gain the south ridge using gullies. Continue to the summit as per the Gold River description.
